# Introduction

What Veltic is, what it is not, and how the pieces fit together.

## What Veltic is

Veltic is a managed platform that runs a PostgreSQL database, long-running Node.js applications, persistent background workers, file storage and realtime channels inside a single project. Everything is administered from one dashboard and one command line interface.

- **PostgreSQL** — Stock Postgres with direct connections and an HTTPS Data API.
- **Applications** — Next.js, NestJS and custom Node services in rootless containers.
- **Functions** — Background workers that outlive a single request.
- **Storage** — Private files with signed tickets, plus public blobs.
- **Realtime** — Project-scoped channels for broadcast, presence and logs.
- **Security** — Scoped API keys, project boundaries and row level security.

## What Veltic is not

It is not a multi-region platform, it does not provide end-user authentication as a product, and container isolation is not a dedicated virtual machine. Fair use is a billing policy, not a capacity guarantee: shared server capacity, connection limits and hard container memory limits all still apply.

## The mental model

A project is the boundary. Databases, applications, functions, storage objects, channels and API keys all belong to exactly one project. Global roles say what kind of account you have; project permissions say what you may do inside a particular project. Both are checked on every operation.
